Once thawed
Previously frozen milk.
24hours · fridge

After fully thawing in the fridge, use within 24 hours. At room temp, finish within 1–2 hours of taking it out. Never refreeze thawed milk.

After baby drinks
From the bottle's edge.
2hours max

Once your baby has started a bottle, finish it within two hours. After that, the milk goes — even if it looks fine. Saliva enters the milk and bacteria grows.

Five rules of thumb. Worth knowing
01
Label every container with the date and ounces. If milk goes to daycare, add baby's name.
02
Oldest milk first. Rotate your stash so nothing in the back of the freezer gets forgotten.
03
Freeze flat. Lay storage bags on their sides — they stack better and thaw twice as fast.
04
Store small. 2–4 oz portions thaw quickly and waste less. You can always thaw a second bag.
05
Cool fresh milk first before mixing it with cold milk already in the fridge. Don't add warm to cold.
How to thaw. Gentle is the rule
Best Overnight in the fridge. No fuss, no rush. Plan one feed ahead.
Faster Warm water bath. Set the bag in a bowl of warm (not hot) water for 10–15 minutes.
Never Microwave or boiling water. Both kill nutrients and create hot spots that can burn your baby.
Tip: Swirl the bottle to mix the fat layer. Don't shake — gentle keeps the milk's structure intact.
